Loved To Be Free
One of the most misunderstood areas about being born from above (born again), according to John 3:16 is the reason why God had to do what He did. Many of us are living well below our potential, not only are we called to freedom but we are also designed with a great capacity to love. Why did an Omnipresent, Omniscient and Omnipotent God chose to be our propitiation, our sacrificial offering? Not only is He present everywhere, He is all knowing and all powerful. Why did God not just hit the reset button in the garden of Eden after Adam and Eve’s sin?
Well one of the things scripture declares about God is that He delights in order and in keeping to His promises. More importantly, God is holy and righteous. He needed to punish sin in order that the righteousness requirements of His character were fulfilled.
Psalm 138:2 KJV
I will worship toward your holy temple, and praise your name for your lovingkindness and for your truth: for you have magnified your word above all your name.
God is not only orderly but He’s the very essence of truth and integrity. Not only would He not violate His word, every word out of His mouth is a decree, a law. God had to enact a plan that would unfold over 2000 years. That is something I am awed by, God is patient, the ultimate master strategist. So, what can we learn about this, God after the garden enacted an elaborate plan for our salvation?
It was detailed, specific and personal. Every book from Genesis to Revelation reveals this design and deliberateness. We need to study His Word with the same attention to detail, it is our birthright and master plan for living in Christ’s freedom for us.
Secondly, God loved us so much that He used only the best resources from heaven to love us into our freedom. The salvation of man was a masterstroke in love, in my upcoming book Love Gone Wild, I explore this topic in more detail. God loved us so much that He began by personally saving Adam and Eve after their fall from grace:
Genesis 3:21 NKJV
Also for Adam and his wife the Lord God made tunics of skin, and clothed them.
God personally undertook their and our salvation! Jesus went on the Cross and offered nothing but His very best for us. The Holy scriptures tell us that Jesus, the second person of the Trinity put aside His divinity for us, and in the book of Matthew 17:1-8 we get a glimpse of who He is, God in the flesh. This is love truly gone wild! God loved us and wanted us to be free.
One of the biggest threats to our freedom is religion, in its Latin root of the word is religare, it means to bind. Religion is never God’s plan, He hates it passionately, you need to see how John the Baptist dealt with the Pharisees, he called them a brood of vipers, hardly a compliment. They (Pharisees) represented the religious order of the day, who held the nation of Israel in bondage through man-made traditions.
God used all power to display love, how ironic most of the mankind’s history indicates that we use our power and authority to dominate, manipulate and oppress one another. I cannot imagine how this hurts our heavenly Father, He is love and loves big! Trust me that is an understatement! Finally, we need to recognise why God did what he did for us, He wanted us to be free, He loved us into freedom, Hallelujah! I love Paul’s exhortation to His son in the Lord:
2 Timothy 1:7
For God did not give us a spirit of timidity or cowardice or fear, but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of sound judgment and personal discipline [abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind and self-control].
I love that, God’s love is freedom and it empowers us!
Be free in Jesus’ name!
